If you’re just a day late, you could be putting the life of the patient in complete danger. What you need then is to improve your productivity. When you can decrease the time you spend in creating documents and increase your outputs, you are not only helping health care providers by giving them on-time reports but you’re also helping yourself because you can boost your income. Fortunately, new medical transcription programs have been developed to assist you in enhancing your productivity level. One of these is the transcription voice recognition software called Infraware. Infraware has a number of tools that can help you in your productivity. However, we will talk about two of them. The first one is the medical spell checker. It can speed up your transcription process because it helps you spot the errors in your documents immediately. Furthermore, it suggests the correct spelling of the word. You don’t have to open an online medical dictionary to know how the word is spelled and what it means. The second one—and perhaps the most innovative—is the back-end speech recognition program called FirstDraft. Are you familiar with speech recognition programs? Usually, this software “listens” to what you say and type the words as you dictate them. With the addition of FirstDraft, Infraware becomes capable of this too. Nevertheless, it doesn’t do just that. It also identifies where the periods, commas, and other punctuations are even if the author doesn’t mention them at all. Moreover, it determines the sentence boundaries and capitalizations. It can also create bullet lists and headings for the reports. The initial draft will then be moved to a document template. It will then be linked to the original audio file for easy playback. You can then compare the dictations with the crude copy that you have. Does this eliminate the need of a transcriptionist? The answer is no, because the initial edits are not perfect. As mentioned, they are crude. Needless to say, though, you don’t have to spend a lot of time editing and re-editing documents, because all you have to do is to make the necessary adjustments: deletions, insertions, or additions.
